DAPHNE brings better diagram analysis and validation efficiencies that drive better franchise performance

DAPHNE puts an end to manual diagram validation and optimises the productivity of existing diagrams via data analysis and comparison.

DAPHNE currently validates over 5,000 diagrams a year for train operators who are looking to make faster and simpler diagram changes and variances, saving many hours of manual checking.

With DAPHNE, train operators are assured that new plans are compliant, optimised and efficient while existing plans are analysed on their effectiveness in resource utilisation.

DAPHNE can analyse some or all the TOC’s current, past or proposed diagrams to see where things might be done more productively.

DAPHNE allows planning management to:

  • Compare the productivity of one depot's diagrams with another's, to see where best practice can be identified.
  • Compare this year's diagrams with last year's, or last month's, to see where a new timetable or changes in working practices have had an effect.

The results can be exported for further analysis; if required.

DAPHNE allows the train planner to check the validity of diagrams before publication.

A diagram will be flagged up as suspect if the appropriate compendium rules about walking-times, taxi times, travelling as passenger, PNBs etc. have not been observed. The planner may choose to override the flag based on specific knowledge of the situation.

  • This rapid validation has proved invaluable to Short Term Planners who have to produce diagrams under severe time pressure.
  • Validation uses the TOC’s own compendium of rules and timings to give immediate feedback to the planner if an unworkable diagram has been created.
  • DAPHNE removes the need for manual validity checking of these diagrams, which thus allows them to be delivered sooner and with less risk of errors that might lead to service disruption.
  • DAPHNE can also be used to identify any trains within a specified date range which are not covered by diagrams.

ITAL’s stand-alone software makes validating timetables fast and efficient so real-time changes in the event of disruption, or future contingencies for planned events such as engineering works, can be more simply achieved.
